ABURI BOTANICAL GARDENS

ABURI GARDENS

Aburi Botanical Garden is a  botanical garden in Aburi in the Eastern Region of Southern Ghana where my grandmother hails from. It is an hour drive or less from Accra. Before this garden was established, it used to be the site of a sanatorium built in 1875 for the Gold Coast government and the gardens played an important role in encouraging cocoa production in Southern Ghana and was officially opened in March 1990. The garden has served as production and teaching scientific methods of agriculture and now leads the fight to save plant diversity through research, conservation of medicinal plants and environmental education.
Above all, it serves as one of the main tourists attraction in the country and in the world. It is one of the most beautiful, peaceful and fascinating places in Ghana. The Garden, is a must experience for every ghanaian as well as people from other walks of life. The beauty and uniqueness stem from its relatively bracing, relieving climate and lushly scenic setting. Its serenity makes it an ideal place for the stress who want relief, the thinker for reflections, the writer who wants solitude.  Butterfly and bird lovers would definitely love the gardens for the presence of many species of butterflies and birds. It is also the ideal place for picnics and holidays. Aburi Gardens is just the blossoming mixture of indigenous and exotic
trees.
Just take a weekend away from the noisy outskirts of Accra to the Aburi Botanical Gardens and experience the magic that comes from the relaxation your body has desired for a long time!
